Former senator Isah Obaro Abonyi, who represented the area now known as Kogi Central Senatorial District, has died.
Abonyi, who served in the Senate between 1979 and 1983, was widely remembered for his commitment to public service and for championing developmental efforts within his constituency.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has extended his condolences to the family of the late statesman. In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media, Governor Ododo described Senator Abonyi as a respected patriot whose life and contributions strengthened the unity and progress of Kogi State.
He noted that the late senator lived a life marked by honesty, humility, and unwavering service to the people—qualities that earned him admiration both within the state and across the nation.
Governor Ododo further acknowledged Senator Abonyi’s active engagement with leaders across Kogi State long after his time in office, consistently offering guidance, wisdom, and support toward development initiatives.
He stressed that the senator’s passing is a significant loss to his family, the people of Kogi Central, and the entire state.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the late senator’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to endure this difficult period.
