The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared Friday, September 12, 2025 (19th of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447 AH), as a public holiday to mark this year’s Maulud Nabiyy celebration.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the holiday will enable Muslims in Kano to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The government urged residents to observe the celebration peacefully while reflecting on the Prophet’s teachings of peace, unity, tolerance, and respect for lawful authority.
“The State Government urges residents to take advantage of this blessed occasion to offer special prayers for peace, prosperity, and the overall progress of Kano State and **Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
The annual Maulud Nabiyy festival is celebrated by Muslims across the world with sermons, prayers, and community gatherings. Kano, being a predominantly Muslim state, traditionally witnesses large turnouts during the celebration, with special emphasis on prayers for peace and development.
