Happening Now!! State House of Assembly Reshuffles Leadership, Appoints New Principal Officers





The Benue State House of Assembly has carried out a significant leadership reshuffle, dissolving its former principal officers and appointing new lawmakers to strategic positions.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 11, 2025, by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Zape Michael Upaa, the Assembly confirmed Thomas Dugeri as the new Majority Leader, while Abraham Jabi was named Deputy Majority Leader.

Other appointments on the majority bench include Cyril Ikong as Majority Chief Whip and Simon Gabo as Deputy Majority Whip.

On the minority side, the Assembly appointed Abu Umoro as Minority Leader, with Cephase Dyako as Deputy Minority Leader. Samuel Jiji will serve as Minority Whip, while Moses Egbodo has been named Deputy Minority Whip.

The statement added that more details on the reorganisation and its expected impact on the Assembly’s legislative agenda would be made available in due course.

SundiataPost recalls that the reshuffle follows the recent emergence of Alfred Emberga, lawmaker representing Makurdi North Constituency, as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. Emberga was sworn in on Sunday, August 24, 2025, during an emergency plenary presided over by Deputy Speaker Lami Ogenyi, after the oath of office was administered by the Clerk of the House, John Hwande.
