Tragedy In Enugu: 58-Year-Old Ex-Soldier Murdered at Enugu Construction Site, Widow Cries Out for Justice

Tragedy struck at a construction site in Igboke Nike, along the Nsukka-Ugwogo Nike Road, Enugu State, following the gruesome murder of a 58-year-old ex-soldier, Mr. Christopher Ogbodo, who was working as a security guard at a petroleum station under construction.

The incident occurred on July 1, 2025, leaving his family devastated and in search of justice. His widow, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbodo, while speaking to the media on Thursday, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that she spoke with her husband on the phone on the same day he was killed.

According to her, the police from Unity Police Station, Ibeagwu Nike, arrived later that night and took his body to the morgue. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Division for further investigation.

Mrs. Ogbodo, however, expressed deep concern over the slow pace of the investigation and alleged negligence by the authorities. She questioned why neither the station manager nor the owner of the construction site had been arrested or interrogated by the police, despite being key figures connected to the premises where the crime occurred.

“I’m not happy over the delay in the investigation of the murder of my husband,” she said. “Why is it that since the day my husband was killed, the station manager has not been arrested?”

She revealed that a labourer working at the site had been arrested but insisted that more people, especially those overseeing the site, should be questioned.

The widow lamented that since July 1, the main suspects appear to be moving freely, while her family is left in pain and uncertainty. She urged the police to carry out a discreet and thorough investigation, arrest all those connected to the scene, and ensure justice is served.

“This is a case of human life, not an animal. Even domestic animals have owners,” she said, demanding that the police take urgent steps to unravel the mystery behind her husband’s murder.

She also appealed to the authorities to release her husband’s body for burial while investigations continue.

Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ndukwe, for a comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the safety of security personnel and the need for enhanced protection measures for workers at construction sites across Enugu State.
