The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has imposed a six-month flight ban on popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, following a controversial incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
According to reports, the incident unfolded when the artist attempted to board ValueJet flight VK 201 with a flask containing an unknown liquid. When questioned by aviation security and the flight captain, KWAM1 allegedly refused to surrender the item, claiming it held prescribed medication. The situation reportedly escalated when the artist poured the contents of the flask—believed to be alcohol—on a security officer.
The altercation further intensified as KWAM1 was accused of obstructing the aircraft by standing in its path while it prepared to taxi, forcing airport authorities to intervene and prevent a potential aviation safety risk.
Following a review of the incident, the NCAA declared the musician had violated aviation safety protocols, resulting in the six-month no-fly sanction. In addition, the two pilots involved were suspended for initiating departure procedures without resolving the security standoff, an action the agency described as endangering passengers' safety.
However, in a swift reaction, KWAM1’s media team denied all allegations, asserting that the flask only contained water sourced from the airport lounge. They further stated that the musician never blocked the plane or acted aggressively. According to them, senior officials from FAAN and ValueJet later apologised and even offered him a private jet, which he declined.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has since launched an investigation into the matter and assured the public that aviation safety measures will be strictly enforced regardless of social status.
