The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has reached out to Jennifer Elohor, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member assaulted by operatives of the state’s vigilance group, Udo-ga-chi, to sympathise with her over the incident.
Speaking to journalists in Awka on Wednesday, Dr. Soludo said she had invited Elohor to the New Government House for a meeting aimed at comforting her and ensuring the incident does not leave her traumatised.
“I was deeply disturbed by the way that lady was assaulted. There is absolutely no justification for such a cruel and humiliating act of abuse. I have reached out to her to check on her well-being and extended an invitation to her. However, she informed me that she is currently not in Anambra and promised to contact me upon her return,” she said.
Elohor was seen in a viral video being brutalised by members of the Udo-ga-chi outfit who stormed the corps lodge in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. The act sparked outrage from civil society organisations and human rights groups, many of whom have called for the disbandment of the security outfit.
In a related development, the Anambra State Government, through the Agunechemba Security outfit, announced the dismissal of eight operatives implicated in the assault and public stripping of the corps member.
Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, confirmed the action at the Agunechemba headquarters in Awka, stating that the dismissed operatives would be handed over to the police for immediate prosecution.
