Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the suspension of three public officials following the resolutions of the Benue State House of Assembly.
The affected officials are the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper. Each of them is to serve a suspension period of one month.
The decision, announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, comes after weeks of tension between the executive and legislative arms of the state over the governor’s initial delay in implementing the assembly’s resolution.
The statement partly reads:
“In line with the resolutions passed by the House, His Excellency affirms the following:
– The suspension of the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, for a period of one month, effective from today.
– The suspension of the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba, for a period of one month, effective from today.
– The immediate suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper, for a period of one month, effective from today.”
Governor Alia reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principles of separation of powers, commending the House of Assembly for carrying out its constitutional duties. He also assured Benue people that his administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
He further urged all affected institutions to ensure smooth service delivery during the suspension period and called on citizens to continue supporting the government’s efforts in building a state that works for all.
