JUST IN: Document Contradicts Wike’s Claim on PDP NEC Meeting and Ibadan Convention

Fresh controversy has trailed remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) released documents contradicting his denial of involvement in the party’s forthcoming activities.

During a live interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Wike had dismissed reports of a planned PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the forthcoming national convention in Ibadan, insisting that he had neither been invited nor informed of such events.

However, a letter dated July 10, 2025, and signed by PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, revealed that Wike was formally invited to the 101st NEC meeting scheduled for July 24, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The document, stamped by Wike’s office on July 18 at 3:19 p.m., confirmed receipt, directly undermining his public claims.

The letter partly read: “On behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, kindly accept our highest consideration and esteemed regards.”

Despite this, Wike had insisted on national television: “Have they given a date for Ibadan? When did NEC agree on that? Nobody has invited me to a NEC meeting for me to say that NEC has sat.”

Meanwhile, the PDP on Monday announced a 110-member organising committee for its elective national convention billed for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan. The committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, comprises sitting governors, ex-governors, and other senior party leaders. Notably, Wike’s name was excluded from the list.

The development has heightened political tensions within the PDP, with analysts describing it as another flashpoint in the long-running faceoff between Wike and the party’s leadership.
