The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has ordered the immediate arrest of its former staff, Olakunle Alex Folarin, after he appeared on a matchmaking programme hosted by socialite Lege Miami on social media.
The video of Folarin’s appearance on the programme went viral, sparking widespread reactions on X (formerly Twitter). Responding through its official page, the EFCC clarified that Folarin was a driver at the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the commission and was recently dismissed for certificate forgery.
The EFCC further disclosed that Folarin unlawfully retained some properties belonging to the commission, including an identity card he displayed during the programme. The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has therefore directed his arrest.
In a strongly worded statement, the commission condemned Folarin’s actions and warned the public against associating his post-dismissal conduct with the EFCC.
“The public is advised against associating Folarin’s post-dismissal conduct with the EFCC,” the statement read.
The development has drawn attention online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the use of official identity cards by dismissed officers for personal purposes.
