BREAKING!! Tinubu Confers National Honours On D’Tigress, Awards $100,000 Each

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on all members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

In addition to the national recognition, President Tinubu also announced a generous cash reward of $100,000 for each player, while members of the technical crew were awarded $50,000 each.

The announcement comes shortly after D’Tigress clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 78–64 in the final match held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan on Sunday night.

With this latest feat, D’Tigress made history as the first team in Africa to win the continental championship five times in a row, bringing their total AfroBasket titles to seven. The team has maintained an unbeaten run in the competition since 2015, winning 29 straight games—a record that underscores their dominance in African women’s basketball.

The federal government’s honour and financial reward come as a morale booster and a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment, discipline, and national pride.
