Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker.
The sad development was confirmed on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the ministry, Ambassador Coker passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a brief illness.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces, with deep sorrow, the sudden demise of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, who unfortunately passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, 16th August 2025,” the statement signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, read.
The ministry described the late diplomat as a hardworking and dedicated career officer who rendered selfless service to Nigeria in various capacities, including postings in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, before his appointment to Buea.
“His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the ministry added, while extending condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends.
