Happening Now: Enugu State Govt Suspends (MOT) Transport Enforcement Activities Ahead of NBA Conference

The Enugu State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all transport-related enforcement activities across the state until 31st August 2025, in preparation for the influx of visitors expected during the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference.

In a circular signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Dr. Obi Ozor, the suspension, which took effect on 20th August 2025, is aimed at ensuring seamless mobility and eliminating friction as over 20,000 visitors arrive in the state for the high-profile event. Enforcement activities are expected to resume on Monday, 1st September 2025.

While enforcement is suspended, the Ministry emphasized that its primary responsibility will be traffic management. Officers are directed to focus on maintaining order at major junctions, terminals, and access points while ensuring smooth vehicular movement, especially around critical areas such as the International Conference Center (ICC) and adjoining routes.

The directive further warned that any officer, unit, or contractor found engaging in harassment or intimidation of motorists would face severe sanctions, including dismissal. Only safety-critical and emergency responses—such as accidents, life-threatening hazards, and active traffic incidents—will be allowed during the moratorium, and such cases must be reported to the Permanent Secretary.

The Ministry also appealed to transport partners in local governments and the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS) to support the directive by ensuring orderliness and providing temporary parking spaces throughout the period.

This move underscores the government’s commitment to creating a hospitable and well-coordinated environment as Enugu plays host to one of the most prestigious gatherings of legal minds in Nigeria.
