A day after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that all properties sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) over unpaid ground rent be reopened, the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still locked.
Recall that on Monday, the FCTA sealed several buildings in Abuja for failing to pay statutory ground rents, a move that sparked outrage among those affected.
In reaction, President Tinubu ordered that all sealed properties be reopened immediately and gave defaulters 14 days to clear their debts, along with a ₦2 million penalty. He also urged landowners to update their land title documents within the same period.
However, by 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the PDP national secretariat in Wuse Zone 5 remained shut. The gate was still locked, with a red FCTA seal displayed beside it, showing that enforcement was ongoing.
Several PDP staff members were seen outside the premises. Some sat on the pavement while others paced around in frustration. One staff member, who asked not to be identified, voiced suspicion that the office was deliberately left sealed.
> “I was here yesterday when the FCTA staff came around. They went to FIRS, Ibro Hotel, NAPTIP and unsealed all of them. When they got to our office, they quickly drove away,” the staffer said.
“I followed them to their office and met with the director of Lands but he said that they are still waiting for instructions from AGIS to unseal PDP.”
