Man Nabbed Trying to Sell Stolen Phone at Same Shop Where It Was Reported Missing

A man has found himself in serious trouble after unknowingly walking into a trap while attempting to sell a stolen phone at a phone shop—only to discover that the rightful owner had earlier reported the theft at the same location.

The dramatic incident, which unfolded in an undisclosed location in Nigeria, was brought to public attention through a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), sparking widespread reactions and conversation across social media platforms.

According to the post, the suspect brought the stolen device to the phone shop and offered to sell it for ₦300,000. However, unknown to him, the original owner had previously visited the same store, lodging a formal complaint and leaving behind vital details of the missing phone, including its IMEI and physical appearance.

Upon identifying the device, the shop attendants reportedly stalled the seller under the guise of price negotiations while they alerted the original owner and, in some versions of the account, the police.

The viral video shows a crowd gathering as tension rises. The would-be seller can be seen trying to defend himself, claiming he found the phone where he worked in a bar or hotel and decided to sell it. His explanation, however, failed to convince bystanders, many of whom accused him of theft.

Social media users quickly jumped on the incident, sharing their own experiences and thoughts on the unfolding drama
