While the senator has yet to reveal the political party he intends to join, insiders said he is already in discussions with APC leadership, his defection is considered a major shift in Kano State’s political landscape, a region where party allegiance plays a significant role in shaping electoral outcomes.
It is noteworthy that Sumaila, along with fellow politicians Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Ali Madakin Gini, had recently been suspended by the NNPP under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. However, the trio rejected the suspension, arguing that they were not part of the faction that initiated the disciplinary action.
