HAPPENING NOW: Air Peace Suspends Nationwide Flight Operations

In response to the ongoing indefinite strike by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has officially suspended all flight operations across the country.

The decision, announced Wednesday, comes amid concerns over the unavailability of Critical Natural Hazard (CNH) weather reports, which are essential for ensuring safe aircraft landings and overall flight safety.

In an official notice issued by Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications at Air Peace, the airline stated:

“Due to the ongoing NiMet strike and the unavailability of CNH (hazardous weather) reports required for safe landings, Air Peace has suspended all flight operations nationwide until the strike is over.”

Reiterating its commitment to passenger safety, the airline added:

“Your safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and will share updates as the situation unfolds.”

The announcement comes as NiMet workers under the umbrella of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) continue their peaceful demonstrations, demanding better welfare packages and working conditions.

With this development, Air Peace becomes one of the first domestic airlines to fully comply with international aviation safety standards in the wake of the nationwide disruption of meteorological services. The airline emphasized that safety cannot be compromised in any operational circumstance.

The airline’s notice featured official affiliations and compliance with IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), reinforcing its dedication to maintaining the highest global safety standards.

Passengers are advised to stay tuned to Air Peace’s communication channels for further updates.
