An InDrive driver who was accused of running off with a vendor’s phone has been apprehended in Ikeja, Lagos, while allegedly trying to collect another delivery order.
The suspect was reportedly caught after a vendor raised the alarm on social media, stating that the driver had failed to deliver a customer’s phone and became unreachable. A post circulating on X (formerly Twitter) had earlier called out the driver, accusing him of theft and criticizing InDrive’s response to the incident.
According to witnesses, the driver was caught four days later in the same Ikeja area where he attempted to pick up a new order. Images shared online show the man lying on the ground after being apprehended.
Online users quickly reacted to the news, expressing frustration over recurring complaints against InDrive riders. Some accused the company of doing little to protect customers or penalize fraudulent drivers.
One user, @OluwatosynBanks, claimed the same individual had picked up an iPhone 12 Pro from an office in Oremeji and then switched off his phone. Others suggested using the suspect’s BVN-linked information to track down his residence through legal means.
The case has fueled a growing conversation about the reliability and security of ride-hailing and delivery apps in Nigeria, with many calling for stricter background checks and accountability measures from such platforms.
As of the time of reporting, InDrive has not issued an official statement on the matter.
