The management of Ayekooto FM, a radio station based in Osun State, has declared one of its former presenters, Daniel Adefare, wanted over allegations of misappropriating over ₦1 million belonging to the station.
According to Akanji Musibau, the station’s General Manager, Adefare was entrusted with the sale of event tickets and the collection of donations as secretary of the station’s Christmas carol planning committee. He allegedly sold 63 event cards valued at ₦180,000 and continued collecting funds into his personal account despite directives to stop.
Musibau further disclosed that Adefare was previously detained for three days by the police over the matter and subsequently wrote an undertaking to refund the money, but failed to honour the agreement. The station, determined to recover the funds, took to social media to declare Adefare wanted, identifying him as a native of Ile-Ife, Osun State.
However, in a counterclaim, Daniel Adefare denied the fraud allegations, stating the total amount involved was ₦270,000, not ₦1 million as alleged. He added that he had already refunded ₦87,000 and was willing to pay the balance of ₦183,000, insisting that the station was exaggerating the matter.
Adefare also claimed he was unwell and did not abandon his duties intentionally. In contrast, Ayekooto FM insists his actions were deliberate and included failure to repay a loan he had earlier secured from the station.
The controversy has sparked debate online, with both parties standing by their accounts as police investigations continue.
