BREAKING: Fraudsters Sold Ghana High Commission Property in Nigeria, Received US$1.5 Million First Instalment, One Suspect Arrested

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed the arrest of Bright Mensah Bonsu for the illegal sale of a Ghanaian diplomatic property in Lagos, Nigeria, valued at US$5.3 million.

Bonsu, a former special aide to the late Ghana High Commissioner to Nigeria, Alhaji Rashid Bawa, reportedly received US$1.5 million as part payment for the prime beachfront property. However, the funds were never deposited into any government account, and the transaction lacked official documentation.

Ablakwa revealed that Bonsu and his collaborators issued fake documents to facilitate the transaction. He further stated that Bonsu was never a staff member of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the High Commission, despite his close association with the late Commissioner.

The Minister also alleged that Bonsu might be involved in the illegal issuance of a diplomatic passport and hinted at more revelations during his upcoming prosecution. He challenged Bonsu’s claim that he acted on instructions from superiors, asserting that the public deserves transparency and accountability.

This development raises serious concerns over the security of diplomatic assets and the potential involvement of high-ranking individuals.
