HAPPENING NOW! Speaker of State House of Assembly Impeached!

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, was impeached by a majority of lawmakers for gross misconduct and abuse of office. Obasa, who had been serving his third term as Speaker, was at the center of multiple allegations concerning the misuse of office and corruption.

The decision to remove Obasa from office came after an emergency session of the Assembly, during which lawmakers voted overwhelmingly in favor of his impeachment. Sources inside the Assembly suggest that the impeachment stemmed from a series of investigations into financial mismanagement, as well as reports of conflicts of interest involving several government contracts linked to Obasa's office.

Shortly after the vote, the Assembly members elected Hon. Mrs. Mojisola Miranda, representing Apapa 1 constituency, as the new Speaker. This marks a historic moment, as Miranda becomes the first woman to hold the position in the Assembly's history.

As the news broke, there was a heavy security presence at the Lagos State House of Assembly, with law enforcement agencies stationed outside the Assembly complex to prevent any disruptions. The impeachment has drawn widespread reactions from various political groups and citizens alike, with many calling it a much-needed step toward ensuring accountability and transparency in governance.

While the former Speaker has yet to publicly address the impeachment, sources close to him claim that he intends to challenge the decision in court. The political landscape in Lagos State is expected to shift significantly as the new leadership takes over the legislative arm of the state government.
