Plan to Unseat Tinubu: Northern Group Unveils New Political Party Ahead 2027

A coalition of northern politicians, known as Team New Nigeria (TNN), has announced its intention to create a new political party aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections. The announcement was made by TNN's national president, Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, during the unveiling of the organization's harmonisation committee in Kano.

Farakwai expressed their disillusionment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a party they had previously supported in its successful campaign against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015. He voiced regret over their role in bringing the APC to power, highlighting the administration's failure to address pressing national issues.

He criticized the government for its poor performance in key areas, including escalating insecurity, widespread poverty, and rising unemployment. He also pointed out the deterioration of social services and infrastructure, and the alarming increase in living costs, describing the country as one where "nothing works."

TNN has already taken formal steps toward establishing the new party, submitting its constitution, manifesto, logo, and flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for approval. Farakwai called on INEC to process their registration impartially and reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to creating a "true democratic Nigeria" that would offer a credible alternative to the current political system.
