The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a prophetess, Folashade Kikiowo Adekola, in connection with the death of a 28-year-old woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn baby. Adesuwa reportedly died from excessive bleeding due to complications following childbirth at Adekola’s church, Christ Engracing Deliverance Ministry, located in the Oke-Aro area of Akure, Ondo State.
According to sources, Adesuwa’s newborn died immediately after birth, and the incident came to light when her brother reported it to the Oke Aro Police Station. The command’s spokesperson, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest, stating that Adekola had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
Reports indicate that Adesuwa had gone to the church days before her delivery for “spiritual incarceration” without informing her husband, Ayodele Adesuwa, who had earlier given her money to register at a government hospital for her delivery. A family source disclosed that Ayodele, upon returning from his farm in Idanre, learned from a neighbor that his wife had gone to the church. Later that evening, he received a call from someone at the church notifying him of the birth. Concerned, he rushed to the church, only to discover that his wife had suffered severe bleeding.
Eyewitnesses recount that Adesuwa’s condition was critical, leading to her rejection by three hospitals before she finally succumbed at the last hospital that accepted her. The family further disclosed that they returned to the church afterward to collect the remains of the deceased newborn and were disturbed by the state of the room where the baby’s body was kept, describing it as unsuitable for childbirth.
Following these distressing events, the family reported the case to the Oke-Aro Police Station, leading to the prophetess’s arrest. The remains of Jumoke Adesuwa have been deposited at the mortuary, and the investigation continues as authorities seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
