Enugu State L-PRES Coordinator Visits Nkanu East LGA Chairman

 

On November 12, 2024, Dr. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, Coordinator of the Enugu State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, Chairman of Nkanu East LGA. The meeting aimed to inform the Chairman about the project's activities and seek support for its objectives.

Dr. Nnajieze highlighted that the L-PRES Project is designed to enhance the Enugu livestock industry by increasing productivity and resilience in the agricultural sector. She encouraged residents to engage in livestock farming, emphasizing its potential to create jobs and boost the local economy. She also stressed the importance of continuous support from the LGA for the timely implementation of the project.

In response, Hon. Paul Okwor, the council's vice chairman, expressed gratitude for the visit and acknowledged the project's significance in fostering livestock development within the LGA. 

"It may interest you to note that Nkanu East Local Government chairman Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh believes so much in this project and in the livestock transformation concept, because we know the benefits to be derived through this project by addressing the issues our livestock farmers are facing and that is why few weeks ago he set up a committee on Agriculture to proffer solutions and recommendations as to support farmers  and increase local food production which will help eradicate hunger and boast internal generated revenue of Nkanu East. We  started with cassava farms but more still need to be done especially in the area of livestock,he added".

  He commended  the state Governor Barr Peter Mbah for investing in livestock farming that has great potentials to improve the living condition of people in rural areas and boast the economy of Enugu State. 

Additionally, he urged Dr. Nnajieze to consider providing financial assistance to rural livestock farmers, as access to funds remains a major hurdle for them. The meeting was attended by Rev. Felix Okoye, Secretary to the local government council.
