...Set to Embark on Collaborative Efforts to Enhance Students Involvement in Sports
On Tuesday, the 12th of November 2024, the Directorate of Sports, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Enugu State, led by Comr. Kingsley Ugwu, held a strategic meeting with Hon. Raymond Ugwu, the Honourable Member representing Enugu East Rural Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly. This meeting focused on strengthening the involvement of students in sports and promoting athletic opportunities within Enugu’s academic institutions.
In line with the state NANS JCC Chairman, Comr Cajetan Ali's administration’s broader vision for the students community, the high-powered delegation which includes the state NANS JCC Director of Special Duties, Comr Okoh Excel Onyedikachi
and various Directors of Sports from tertiary institutions in Enugu State, met with Hon. Ugwu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee in the Enugu State House of Assembly to discuss collaborative measures to foster sports participation among students, recognizing sports as a pathway for personal development, unity, and career building.
Comr. Kingsley Ugwu emphasized the significance of sports in nurturing valuable life skills among young people, saying, "Our mission is to create an environment where students not only engage in sports but also build discipline, teamwork, and resilience, which are vital for their growth and future leadership roles." He expressed optimism that through support from Hon. Ugwu and the state government, more opportunities would be created for students to excel in their chosen athletic disciplines.
In response, Hon. Raymond Ugwu warmly welcomed the team, commending their proactive approach and commitment to youth development through sports. He shared the state government’s commitment to sports development, highlighting plans to invest in infrastructure, training, and talent discovery initiatives targeted at students. "We are ready is to support student athletes and build a structure where they can showcase their talents, gain recognition, and compete at higher levels," he remarked, reaffirming the government's dedication to youth empowerment.
The meeting reflects a growing partnership between Enugu State’s legislative arm and NANS, focused on creating sustainable programs that encourage sports participation across all tertiary institutions in the state. By working together, they aim to unlock the potential of young athletes and promote an inclusive sports culture within Enugu’s educational landscape.
