The Delta State Police Command has expressed its condolences to the family of 23-year-old Precious Yusuf, whose body was discovered on October 24 along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club, Asaba. The shocking discovery was made following her visit to a man she recently met on an online dating site.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the police in Delta State, the local 'A' division DPO, CSP Rex Abiodun, received a distress call about the incident around 8:40 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene with his team, they confirmed the tragic find.
Preliminary investigations reveal that on October 22, Precious informed a friend that she was heading to meet a male acquaintance she had connected with on the dating platform iHappy. She reportedly traveled to Coka to see him, and on the following day, October 23, around 7:30 a.m., she contacted her friend to say she was on her way home. This would be her last known communication. Her body was discovered the next day along the roadside.
The police have since transported the body to the mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured the public and the bereaved family that an in-depth investigation is underway, pledging that those responsible will face justice. In his statement, Abaniwonda also advised young women to exercise caution, especially when interacting with individuals they meet on dating websites and social media platforms.
