A 21-year-old man, Mubarak Haladu, has been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command for the alleged kidnapping and murder of his brother’s 7-year-old son, Haruna Bello, in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, revealed that Haladu abducted Haruna and demanded a ransom of N1.5 million from the boy's father. On October 10, 2024, the victim's father, Bello Haladu, reported the kidnapping to the police, stating that his brother, Mubarak, called him to demand the ransom. Following this report, the case was referred to the Anti-kidnapping unit for further investigation.
On October 17, 2024, Mubarak Haladu was apprehended by police operatives. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and admitted to breaking into three shops, stealing approximately thirty mobile phones, which he used to contact his brother for the ransom.
Tragically, on October 18, the lifeless body of Haruna Bello was discovered in an uncompleted building in Dadin Kowa village, showing signs of decay. Mubarak Haladu is expected to face charges in court for his alleged crimes.
