SAD: Kidnapping Resumes Along Ugwuogo-Nsukka Road as UNN Dean, FRSC Official Abducted

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, a senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The incident occurred on Sunday morning along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road.

Professor Ujam, who also serves in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was reportedly taken while traveling on this road. Although details surrounding his abduction remain unclear, reports indicate that the kidnappers have yet to make contact with his family.

The situation on this road continues to raise serious safety concerns, as additional reports reveal that an official from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Emeason Chima, was also kidnapped on Saturday. Chima, attached to the Ugbokolo Unit (RS4.211) of the FRSC, was seized near Maduka University in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State while driving alone in a Toyota saloon car. His captors have since demanded a ransom of N50 million for his release.

Additionally, an unconfirmed report indicated that occupants of a commercial bus were also abducted along this same route on Friday, further highlighting the severity of the situation.

Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command for an official statement on these incidents have been unsuccessful, as the Command's spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, was unreachable at the time of this report.

The recent surge in kidnapping activities along the Ugwuogo-Nsukka Road has sparked concerns and demands for increased security measures to ensure the safety of commuters and residents in the area.
