ENUGU — Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has appointed renowned entrepreneur, humanitarian, public health consultant and global development advocate, Dr. Mrs. Chiesonu Iziga-Eruchalu, as a member of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education (Technical) (ESCET).
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a government publication signed by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu’s appointment is being widely viewed as a recognition of her track record of leadership, enterprise development, youth and women empowerment, humanitarian intervention and continued advocacy for the advancement of Enugu State.
She joins other distinguished personalities appointed to the ESCET Governing Council, with Barr. Nwabueze Ugwu as Chairman.
The newly constituted council comprises:
1. Barr. Nwabueze Ugwu — Chairman
2. Prince Cletus Ajaegbu — Member
3. Dr. Chiesonu Iziga-Eruchalu — Member
4. Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwatu — Member
5. Theophilus Onyebeke — Member
Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu has been associated with sustained grassroots mobilisation and advocacy for the administration of Governor Mbah, particularly during the political activities that preceded the 2023 governorship election.
She was notably involved in mobilising women and other stakeholders to support and canvass votes for Mbah, who subsequently emerged victorious in the election and assumed office as Governor of Enugu State.
Since the emergence of the Mbah administration, she has continued to lend her voice, network and expertise to initiatives projecting the interests and image of Enugu State, both within Nigeria and on international platforms.
Her latest appointment therefore comes against the backdrop of years of public engagement and demonstrated commitment to issues concerning education, women, youth, enterprise and community development.
A daughter of Amube in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu has steadily built a profile that now extends beyond the shores of Nigeria.
Her recent participation at the prestigious 12th Africa Investment & Trade Forum (AFIC12) in Algiers, Algeria, further underscored her growing international relevance.
Held at the Sheraton Hotels Algiers, the high-level continental gathering brought together more than 2,000 participants, 250 exhibitors and delegates from over 43 countries under the theme, “Together, We Open Markets.”
Organised in collaboration with the African Union, Afreximbank and the AfCFTA Secretariat, the forum provided a platform for investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs and development stakeholders to explore trade, investment and economic opportunities across Africa.
Significantly, Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu was described as the only representative from the South-East region and Enugu State among Nigeria’s delegation, giving the state a distinctive voice at the continental gathering.
Rather than viewing the forum as merely ceremonial, she highlighted its importance as a platform for deal-making, strategic partnerships and investment matchmaking capable of producing tangible economic opportunities.
Her presence at AFIC12 also provided another opportunity to project Enugu State within conversations around investment, innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
One of the major highlights of the forum was the announcement by the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, of a “zero-duty” customs exemption policy for 53 African countries, expected to take effect from May 2026, as part of efforts to expand African exports into the Chinese market.
The forum also featured high-level engagements around the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and preparations for the Africa Start-up Conference scheduled for December 2026 in Algiers.
For Enugu, Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu’s participation represented more than individual recognition, reinforcing the state’s growing visibility in continental economic and investment conversations.
An alumna of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu has pursued further academic and professional development locally and internationally, with qualifications and certifications spanning business administration, management, innovation and brand building.
She currently serves as Managing Director of Glozig Enterprise and TConsult360, while also leading the Chieso Life Foundation (CLF).
Through the foundation, she drives the annual “Every Child Deserves Education Initiative,” which seeks to remove barriers preventing disadvantaged children from accessing education.
Her professional interests and interventions cut across consulting, branding, research, data analysis, training, public health, entrepreneurship and humanitarian development.
Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu’s leadership footprint also extends into youth and socio-political development.
She is a former National Vice President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, through which she participated in youth and women development initiatives and broader national conversations.
She has also contributed to policy discussions, including the presentation of constitutional amendment proposals before the Nigerian Senate, while her interventions on national issues, security and leadership have earned her visibility as a BBC Igbo-featured voice.
Her combination of professional expertise, grassroots engagement and international exposure has earned her affectionate titles including Agbanchala, Nwaejiejemba, Nnukwu Ada, Anyanwu na-etiri oha and Beauty and Brains.
With her appointment to the ESCET Governing Council, attention will now turn to how her experience in enterprise development, education advocacy, youth empowerment and strategic partnerships can contribute to the institution’s growth.
The appointment also comes at a time when the Enugu State Government is placing renewed emphasis on strengthening human capital development, education, innovation and skills acquisition as key drivers of the state's economic transformation agenda.
For many observers, Dr. Iziga-Eruchalu’s elevation to the council represents the intersection of grassroots service, professional excellence and global exposure.
From Amube in Igbo-Eze North to major national and international platforms, her journey has continued to attract attention as an example of how talent and purposeful leadership can contribute to projecting Enugu State beyond its borders.
Her new role at ESCET, therefore, adds another chapter to a growing story of service and impact and places another experienced hand at the table as Enugu continues to pursue its ambitious development agenda.
