The Wife of the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Rita Edeh, who also serves as the ALGON Chairperson for Enugu State and the South-East, has warmly welcomed Ndi Enugu to the 2026 Enugu Women’s August Meeting, describing the annual gathering as a powerful celebration of womanhood, culture, unity and the enduring strength of Enugu women.
Mrs. Edeh made the remarks as Nkanu East joins women from across the state for the 2026 August Meeting, themed “The Resilient Woman.”
She said the theme was timely and reflective of the courage, determination and resilience with which women continue to navigate challenges, nurture families, build communities and contribute meaningfully to the development of Enugu State.
According to her, Nkanu East is proud to welcome women, families and stakeholders from across the state to the celebration, noting that the August Meeting provides a unique platform for Ndi Enugu to reconnect with their roots, celebrate their shared identity and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state.
“Nkanu East warmly welcomes Ndi Enugu to this year’s August Meeting. We are delighted to be part of a celebration that reminds us of the beauty of our unity, the richness of our culture and the extraordinary strength of our women. This is more than a gathering; it is a moment for us to reconnect, celebrate one another and renew the bonds that make us one people.”
Mrs. Edeh emphasized that the resilience of women should not merely be celebrated in words but should also be recognised through meaningful support, opportunities and platforms that empower women to thrive.
She commended the Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for her efforts in promoting women-focused initiatives and encouraged women across Nkanu East and Enugu State to participate actively in the 2026 celebration.
She described the gathering as an opportunity for women to share experiences, showcase their talents, promote enterprise and draw inspiration from one another.
The Nkanu East ALGON Chairperson further called on families, community leaders and other stakeholders to continue supporting women and creating an enabling environment for them to contribute even more effectively to the development of their communities.
“The resilient woman is the woman who keeps hope alive, rises above challenges, strengthens her family and remains committed to the progress of her community. As we gather this August, let us celebrate that spirit and remind every woman that her contribution matters and her voice counts.”
Mrs. Edeh also commended the organisers of the 2026 Enugu Women’s August Meeting for sustaining a cherished tradition that brings women together across political, social and community lines.
She expressed confidence that this year’s edition would be a memorable celebration of culture, friendship, resilience and the collective strength of Enugu women.
The 2026 Enugu Women’s August Meeting is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, by 10:00 a.m.
As Nkanu East joins the rest of the state in welcoming Ndi Enugu to the celebration, Mrs. Edeh urged women to come together in the spirit of love, unity and resilience, stressing that when women rise together, families, communities and the entire state rise with them.
