Prof. Jehu Nnaji Congratulates Prof. Augustine Uchenna Akubue on His Emergence As ADC Chairman Enugu State

A new leadership chapter has commenced in the Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as Professor Augustine Uchenna Akubue emerged as State Chairman, drawing commendations from prominent party stakeholders, including Professor Jehu Onyekwere Nnaji.

The emergence of Akubue followed a well-attended and widely applauded state congress held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Rochas Okorocha’s Events Arena along Airport Road, Enugu. The congress, supervised by the Enugu State Congress Committee appointed by the ADC national secretariat, has been described by stakeholders as a defining moment in the party’s journey toward consolidation and renewed political relevance in the state.

The congress committee was chaired by Dr. C.C. Okeke, with Barr. (Mrs.) Joy Chioma Anyanwu serving as Secretary, alongside members including John Nwokeabia, Hon. Charles Egbo, and Dr. Matthias O. Omeh, ensuring a transparent and credible process that produced the new leadership.

Reacting to the development, Professor Jehu Onyekwere Nnaji, a globally renowned scholar, legal luminary, and ADC governorship aspirant for the 2027 elections, congratulated Akubue on what he described as a well-deserved emergence. He noted that the new chairman’s victory reflects years of dedication to party development and deep-rooted grassroots connections across Enugu State.

Prof. Nnaji expressed strong confidence in Akubue’s capacity to unify party members and reposition the ADC as a formidable opposition force capable of offering credible and people-oriented leadership. According to him, the chairman possesses the political experience, network, and strategic insight required to strengthen party structures, restore confidence among stakeholders, and mobilize support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He further emphasized that the successful conduct of the congress signals a broader effort within the party to consolidate reform-driven forces and reposition the ADC as a viable platform for progressive governance in Enugu State.

Calling for unity, Prof. Nnaji urged party faithful to rally behind the new leadership, stressing the importance of reconciliation, cohesion, and renewed grassroots engagement as critical ingredients for electoral success.

Beyond his political engagement, Prof. Nnaji’s endorsement carries significant weight, given his distinguished global profile. A Professor of International Law and Global Politics at the University of Kansas School of Law in the United States, he has earned international recognition for his contributions to legal scholarship and governance. His career spans academia, international adjudication, and public service, including his role as a judge at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

His extensive experience in global jurisprudence, combined with his active involvement in Nigeria’s political and educational sectors, positions him as a leading voice within the ADC and a key figure in shaping the party’s future direction in Enugu State.

Why the party consolidates its structures under the new leadership of Prof. Akubue, political observers note that the alignment of credible figures such as Prof. Nnaji signals renewed optimism and a strategic repositioning of the ADC ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
