HUMANITY: Enugu Community Receives Lifeline of Care in Easter Outreach, As Gov. Mbah's Medical Team Extends Healing Touch to Markets, Churches

_On Easter Saturday, April 4, 2026, the people of Ugwuaji community in Enugu South Local Government Area expressed gratitude, relief and hope, as PNM Care Initiative in collaboration with the Grassroots Network for Peter Mbah delivered a far-reaching medical outreach that touched lives across all age groups, marking what has been widely described as the governor’s Easter gift to the people.

_The outreach, held at Ugwuaji Community Primary School, recorded an overwhelming turnout, with residents arriving in large numbers hours before the commencement of activities. The early morning calm soon gave way to excitement as the medical team and organisers arrived, welcomed by a crowd eager to access healthcare services that many had long been waited for.

_In a strategic move to ensure inclusivity, the outreach extended beyond the central venue to Eke Market and various churches within the community. Medical experts moved through these locations, offering consultations, administering medications, and conducting health sensitisation campaigns. Traders and worshippers were educated on preventive healthcare practices, while individuals with serious health conditions were transported to the main outreach centre for comprehensive treatment all free of charge, fully sponsored by the Enugu State Government.

_At the primary venue, a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, dentists, and eye specialists worked tirelessly to attend to the influx of patients. Services ranged from blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, malaria diagnosis and treatment, and dental care, to eye examinations and distribution of prescription and essential medications.

_For many beneficiaries, particularly the elderly, the outreach was more than a medical intervention it was a lifeline. Some recounted years of untreated ailments due to financial constraints, while others expressed emotional relief after receiving proper diagnosis and care. The distribution of free drugs further eased the burden, allowing patients to return home with not just treatment, but hope.

_The Director General of the Grassroots Network for Peter Mbah, Dr. Cajetan Ali, alongside the Director-General of PNM Care Initiative, Roy Ekwueme, described the outreach as a deliberate Easter gesture by the governor to bring healthcare service closer to the people of Ugwuaji.

_They explained that beyond healthcare delivery, the outreach also incorporated voter education and sensitisation, helping residents better understand the policies and developmental strides of the current administration. According to them, many beneficiaries expressed surprise at the scale of projects being executed across the state, admitting that they had not fully realised the extent of government impact within their communities.

_The collaboration between both organisations, they noted, was intentional. While the Grassroots Network has consistently focused on grassroots mobilisation, civic engagement, and empowerment through policy awareness, the PNM Care Initiative has been at the forefront of delivering free healthcare services to rural and underserved populations, particularly the elderly. Their joint effort in Ugwuaji created a comprehensive model that combined awareness with direct intervention.

_The impact was evident throughout the day, as long queues were systematically attended to, with each patient receiving adequate care. Despite the large turnout, the exercise maintained efficiency and professionalism, reflecting the strength of coordination between organisers and medical personnel.

_Beneficiaries, overwhelmed by the gesture, offered prayers and words of appreciation to Governor Mbah, describing the outreach as timely and transformative. Many noted that the Easter season had taken on a deeper meaning for them, not just as a period of celebration, but as a moment of healing and renewal.

_The outreach also builds on the consistent activities of the Grassroots Network, including its recent campus engagement at the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and its assessment visit to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Park Lane, where it highlighted ongoing healthcare infrastructure transformation under the current administration.

_Similarly, the PNM Care Initiative has continued to expand its reach across rural communities, delivering life-saving medical interventions and bridging critical gaps in access to healthcare.

_The scene at Ugwuaji Community Primary School reflected the true essence of the initiative, smiles replacing pain, gratitude replacing anxiety, and hope rising where there had once been neglect.

_In the spirit of Easter, the outreach stood not just as a charitable act, but as a powerful demonstration of governance rooted in compassion, inclusiveness, and tangible impact, bringing healing, dignity, and renewed faith to the people of Ugwuaji.
