Residents Cry Out After Being Trapped in Lift for 40 Minutes in Banana Island Apartment

Residents of a luxury apartment complex in Banana Island have raised alarm after several occupants were reportedly trapped inside an elevator for nearly 40 minutes.

The incident came to public attention after a video circulating on social media showed distressed residents stuck inside the lift, struggling to breathe while repeatedly calling for help.

In the viral footage, about five adults were seen sweating heavily and appearing anxious as they waited for assistance. One of the occupants, who recorded the video, narrated their ordeal while trapped in the elevator.

According to him, the group had already spent close to 40 minutes inside the lift without rescue.

“We are here stuck in the lift of Banana Island school apartment. We’ve been stuck here for almost 40 minutes and we’re all about suffocating in here,” the man said in the video.

He added that he was inside the elevator with his wife, identified as Mary, alongside his brother and cousin.

“For you to know, I’m here with my wife Mary and my brother is here and my cousin. We are here, we are about suffocating in here. Nobody seems to have been doing anything about it,” he lamented.

The man further revealed that they had contacted the landlady’s daughter, who told them she would see what could be done.

According to him, the principal of a nearby school also visited the scene and assured them that efforts were being made to resolve the situation.

“We spoke to the landlady’s daughter, she said they will see what they can do. The principal of the school came over and said they are trying to do something. Forty minutes and we are almost passing out in here,” he said.

The video has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users expressing concern over safety standards and emergency response measures in residential buildings, especially in high-end estates like Banana Island.
