Key Milestones Of Hon. Aka Eze Aka As Executive Chairman Of Udenu LGA

Since assuming office in September 2024, the Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Hon. Aka Eze Aka, has recorded significant strides across critical sectors, reflecting a governance style anchored on grassroots development, institutional reform, and measurable impact.

Across education, infrastructure, water supply, agriculture, youth empowerment, security, healthcare, and governance, the administration has translated policy frameworks into practical interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

In the education sector, over 130 teachers were sponsored for the 2025 Teachers’ Training Programme under the Learning Without Limit Initiative, aligning with the human capital development agenda of Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. Teaching materials were also distributed to head teachers across primary schools to strengthen instructional delivery, particularly in rural communities. In addition, the Chairman sponsored the Next Class Alert System Design Hackathon held at the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, exposing secondary school students to innovation and technology-driven problem-solving.

On infrastructure, the Ozo Ji–Ukwu Akpu–Old Otukpo Link Road project has reached 75 percent completion, with a non-performing contractor disengaged to maintain quality standards. Extensive grading of feeder roads was carried out across Amalla and other wards, improving rural connectivity and access to markets. The Obollo-Eke–Isienu–Umuitodo–Ogwu–Obollo Afor Road, spanning 19.8 kilometres, also received direct funding support from the council for a 2-kilometre trunk section. The reconstruction and commissioning of the Obollo Agu Agu Roundabout in Obollo Afor has further enhanced traffic flow and urban aesthetics.

In water supply and sanitation, the rehabilitation of the Local Government Secretariat borehole restored steady water access for staff and visitors. Solar-powered industrial boreholes were initiated across the 10 wards, with several already completed in communities including Obollo Eke, Orba, Ezimo, Imilike, and Udunedem. A public convenience facility constructed at Obollo Afor Park 1 has improved hygiene standards in the busy commercial hub.

Agriculture has also witnessed renewed focus, with over 1,000 hectares secured for proposed farm estates aimed at boosting food production and employment. In partnership with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and GIZ-Zmove, women and youths were trained in cashew grafting, while plans are underway to revive the Udenu Cashew Processing Plant, positioning the area as a potential export hub.

Youth empowerment initiatives include the revitalization of the Udenu ICT and Innovation Hub in Obollo Afor, where trainees have commenced six months of free training in UI/UX design, product design, and digital marketing, enhancing digital skills and employment prospects.

On security, regular stakeholder engagements and the procurement of 20 patrol motorbikes for Neighborhood Watch and Forest Guards have strengthened rapid response capabilities. Through coordinated strategies under the Udenu Development and Investment Agency (UDIA), improved intelligence-led operations reportedly contributed to curbing kidnapping activities within the area.

The administration also prioritized sports development by hosting the maiden edition of the Peter Mbah–Udenu Football League 2025, with exceptional players earning trial opportunities with Rangers International F.C. and cash prizes exceeding ₦2.2 million.

In healthcare, the Amutenyi Basic Health Centre has been equipped with modern facilities, while a facelift is planned for the ALGON Health Centre in Nkwo Orba to enhance primary healthcare delivery.

Human capital development efforts extended to sponsoring seven Udenu indigenes to their Call-to-Bar ceremonies in Abuja, supporting professional advancement and easing financial burdens on families.

Institutionally, the Secretariat underwent expansion through the conversion of unused spaces into furnished offices and a visitors’ waiting area, alongside the reconstruction of the main gate to improve security and administrative efficiency.

Overall, the administration of Hon. Aka Eze Aka reflects a governance model centered on sustainability, accountability, and structured development planning, laying what stakeholders describe as a solid foundation for long-term transformation in Udenu Local Government Area.
