Veteran Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter Toun Soetan, popularly known as Evangelist Shouet, has passed away at the age of 73.
Soetan was widely recognized for composing the famous Christian chorus Darling Jesus, a song that has been sung in many churches across Nigeria for decades.
Beyond her musical talent, she was also respected for mentoring young gospel artists through her music college, where she trained several students who later became notable figures in the gospel music industry.
Her contributions to gospel music also include popular worship songs such as Ke Pe Jesu and Cast Your Burdens, which continue to feature prominently in worship services in churches across Nigeria.
The news of her death was confirmed by fellow gospel musician Peters Olaniyi Olusegun, who expressed condolences to her husband, Titus Soetan, and the entire family.
