A powerful wave of grassroots political mobilisation swept through Enugu South Local Government Area on Friday, March 13, 2026, as the pro-good governance movement G-17 For Peter Mbah formally launched its Endorsement Register for the re-election of the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The well-attended event, which drew council officials, community leaders, political stakeholders and residents, marked another strategic step by the group in its statewide mobilisation drive aimed at consolidating support for the governor’s second term bid.

In a symbolic show of support and confidence in the governor’s leadership, the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani, who also serves as the Chief Patron of G-17 in the council area, became the first signatory to the endorsement register, officially signing on behalf of the council, designated members of the group, and the people of the local government.

The signing ceremony was greeted with applause and excitement from members of the group and community stakeholders who described the moment as a bold declaration of loyalty and appreciation for the governor’s transformative leadership across the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Convener, Board of Trustees Chairman, and Director-General of G-17 For Peter Mbah, Dr. Chinedu Mbah, explained that the Endorsement Register is the central pillar of the movement’s grassroots political engagement.

According to him, each of the 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State has been allocated a specially designed register containing 10,000 slots, bringing the projected statewide endorsement strength to 170,000 registered supporters.

Dr. Mbah disclosed that the register is structured to capture names, phone numbers, polling units, wards, and signatures of members who have resolved to publicly endorse Governor Mbah’s second term ambition.

He described the initiative as a deliberate effort to document the voice of the people at the grassroots level, stressing that the movement is anchored on performance, gratitude, and continuity of good governance.

“This is not politics as usual. This is the voice of the people being documented, ward by ward, polling unit by polling unit,” Dr. Mbah declared.

“Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has earned the trust, loyalty, and confidence of Ndi Enugu through visionary leadership and measurable results. From infrastructure to economic transformation, the people can see the difference. His re-election in 2027 is not negotiable; it is a reward for excellence and a mandate for continuity.”

He further urged residents to ensure they possess their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the democratic process, stressing that the G-17 movement remains committed to grassroots mobilisation across every ward and polling unit in Enugu State.

In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Dr. Caleb Ani, commended the leadership of G-17 for what he described as a strategic and innovative approach to grassroots political engagement. He praised the convener, Dr. Chinedu Mbah, for initiating what he termed “a well-structured political mobilisation that aligns with the aspirations of the people of Enugu State.”

The chairman noted that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration has delivered visible and impactful development across critical sectors, adding that the governor’s achievements have naturally earned him the overwhelming support of the people. According to him, the endorsement register initiative will further consolidate the already growing support base of the governor. “Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has demonstrated uncommon leadership and commitment to the development of Enugu State. His re-election is non-negotiable. With the momentum of groups like G-17, the governor will undoubtedly record a landslide victory in 2027,” he declared.

*Speaking further, Enugu South Council Chairman, Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani described G-17 for Peter Mbah as one of the most vibrant and well-structured grassroots political support groups in Enugu State. He noted that political parties alone cannot effectively drive mass mobilisation without the complementary role of support groups. According to him, he has consistently advised his colleagues and political stakeholders to always encourage and support such grassroots movements, stressing that groups like G-17 serve as critical bridges between the government and the people. He added that the proactive activities of the group further demonstrate the widespread acceptance of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah across communities in the state.*

The mobilisation train later moved to the traditional institution as the G-17 delegation paid a courtesy visit to the revered traditional ruler of Amechi Uwani, Igwe Joseph Emeka Ogbodo, the Ohachirieze II of Amechi Uwani Awkunanaw, popularly known as Agu Enugu I, and widely regarded as one of the oldest and most respected monarchs in Enugu South Local Government Area.

Receiving the delegation in his palace, the monarch commended the group for recognising and supporting what he described as the remarkable achievements of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah within a short period in office.

During prayers offered for the governor, the monarch invoked the God of Nkanu land to continue to strengthen and sustain the governor in his leadership journey.

In a strong traditional declaration, the royal father warned that anyone from Nkanu land within the Enugu East Senatorial Zone attempting to undermine or frustrate the governor’s second term ambition would face the wrath of the ancestral gods of the land.

According to him, there is no justification for opposition to the governor’s re-election from his own ancestral region when the administration has continued to deliver tangible results for the people.

“In just three years in office, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has achieved remarkable things. Democracy is working in Enugu State, and for this reason he has my prayers and support,” the monarch stated.

Other distinguished members of the movement, including the G-17 Enugu South Local Government Coordinator, Chief Sunday White Nnaji, as well as state and local government executives of the group, also took turns to reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the governor’s administration.

They pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation across wards, communities, and polling units in Enugu South and beyond, assuring that the G-17 structure will remain a strong political vehicle for consolidating support for Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election in 2027.

Recall that the G-17 For Peter Mbah movement was formally unveiled earlier this year as a grassroots political platform dedicated to mobilising citizens across the 17 local government areas of Enugu State in support of the governor’s reform-driven administration.

Since its official unveiling, the group has embarked on several mobilisation activities, including the distribution of endorsement registers to local government coordinators, stakeholder engagements, and community outreach programmes aimed at documenting public support for the governor’s second term bid.

The Enugu South outing is widely seen by political observers as another major milestone in the group’s expanding grassroots endorsement campaign, reinforcing the growing political momentum behind Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s leadership in Enugu State.
