BREAKING!! Appeal Court to Deliver Judgment on PDP Leadership Dispute

The Court of Appeal is set to deliver judgment on a series of consolidated appeals arising from the national elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2022.

A total of nine appeals have been filed before the appellate court, all challenging the validity of the convention which produced key members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Ahead of the ruling, leaders from the rival factions within the PDP were present in court. The groups, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Mohammed, were observed at the court premises awaiting the outcome of the proceedings.

Also present was Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary aligned with the Mohammed-led National Working Committee. Eyewitnesses noted that Anyanwu exchanged pleasantries with Turaki shortly before the court session commenced.

The legal dispute stems from long-standing internal disagreements within the PDP over the conduct and legitimacy of the Ibadan convention, with aggrieved members arguing that the process that produced party officials did not fully comply with party rules and applicable laws.

The decision of the Court of Appeal is expected to have significant implications for the party’s leadership structure and internal stability, particularly as factions within the PDP continue to contest control and legitimacy ahead of future political contests.

More details are expected as the court prepares to deliver its judgment.
