Governor Peter Mbah, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, has officially declared open the 37th Enugu International Trade Fair, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment and driving economic growth.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Enugu, Barr. Ossai, commended the leadership of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) for sustaining the trade fair over the years, describing it as a critical platform for economic collaboration and innovation.
He noted that the administration of Governor Mbah has consistently prioritized policies and initiatives aimed at dismantling barriers to business growth, while creating opportunities for wealth creation, employment generation, and increased internally generated revenue.
According to him, “our interventions in supporting businesses are deliberate and rooted in our vision to expand the ease of doing business, lift our people out of poverty, and grow our economy. Businesses remain central to achieving these objectives.”
Ossai emphasized that trade fairs should go beyond ceremonial gatherings, describing them as strategic avenues for addressing real challenges confronting businesses. He disclosed that the state government is already engaging stakeholders to develop actionable solutions that will outlive the event.
Highlighting the need for self-reliance, the Deputy Governor urged entrepreneurs and stakeholders to look inward and harness local ingenuity rather than dwell on systemic challenges.
“We must move away from constant complaints and begin to create solutions. The challenges we face present opportunities to innovate and build. Government alone cannot solve all problems; collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential,” he said.
In a major policy reassurance, Ossai reiterated the state government’s readiness to actively support local businesses, even offering to serve as a “chief marketing officer” for producers in the state.
“For every business that produces in Enugu, this government is ready to help market your products. Tell us what you produce and your target market, and we will connect you to the right consumers locally and globally,” he stated.
He further assured investors and business owners of the administration’s openness to partnerships, stressing that the Ministry of Trade and Investment remains fully equipped to facilitate business growth and resolve challenges.
Ossai also encouraged participants to actively engage exhibitors, foster partnerships, and strengthen local supply chains by patronizing made-in-Enugu products.
The Enugu International Trade Fair is one of the state’s flagship economic events, attracting exhibitors, investors, and stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond, with a focus on promoting trade, investment, and industrial development.
The Deputy Governor concluded the ceremony by formally declaring the 37th edition of the fair open, expressing optimism that it would stimulate meaningful economic activities and partnerships for the benefit of the state and the wider region.
