Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, Chief of Operations at Naval Headquarters, Dies

The Chief of Operations at the Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, is dead.

According to counterinsurgency source Zagazola Makama, the senior naval officer passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2026, after a brief illness.

Rear Admiral Katagum was recently appointed to head operations at the Naval Headquarters by the Chief of Naval Staff. Prior to that role, he served at the Defence Headquarters and also held the position of Chief of Naval Intelligence.

As Chief of Operations, he oversaw major naval activities nationwide, supervising missions and collaborating with other security agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters. His office was central to efforts aimed at combating maritime crimes and enhancing safety along the country’s coastline.

Throughout his service, Katagum was widely regarded for his expertise in naval operations. He contributed to the development of key security strategies and played a significant role in strengthening the Navy’s intelligence framework. Many officers mentored under him advanced through the ranks, reflecting his discipline and professional influence.
