Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, has appointed Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, the decision is aimed at strengthening communication and public interaction around government policies and programmes.
Governor Okpebholo approved Johnson-Okojie’s appointment in recognition of her wide influence, grassroots appeal, and experience in public advocacy. She is described as an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with nearly two decades in the film industry and appearances in over 200 movies.
The statement also highlighted her humanitarian efforts through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare outreach.
As Special Adviser, Johnson-Okojie is expected to leverage her visibility and engagement capacity to enhance communication between the Edo State Government and citizens.
Her husband, Odianosen Okojie, currently represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
