Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday resisted an attempt by security operatives to arrest him at the Abuja International Airport.
According to reports gathered by National Post, El-Rufai had just arrived from Cairo when security agents approached him in an attempt to effect the arrest.
However, the former governor reportedly declined to follow the operatives, insisting that he would not comply without a formal written invitation. Following his refusal, the security agents allegedly seized his international passport from one of his aides.
In a statement posted on X by his aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, it was disclosed that:
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo.
Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They however snatched his passport from an aide.”
It would be recalled that El-Rufai had earlier expressed fears that he could be arrested soon. He claimed that some of his former associates in Kaduna had already been picked up by security agencies, leading him to believe he might be next.
Reacting to the incident at the airport, the former governor stated:
“Listen, nobody, not even the president will tell me anything. If you want to invite me, please give me a letter.”
