Violence erupted on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State as gunmen attacked the lawmaker representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu.
The incident occurred at Ovade, the designated venue for the party congress. Trouble reportedly began shortly after Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, arrived at the location with her supporters.
Eyewitnesses said tension escalated when the lawmaker attempted to access the venue. Armed men allegedly confronted her entourage, attacking them with guns and other weapons in an apparent effort to prevent her entry into the congress ground.
Several individuals sustained injuries as panic and confusion spread across the area, forcing party members and supporters to flee for safety. Security personnel attached to the lawmaker were said to have intervened swiftly, preventing further escalation of the violence.
The disruption cut short what was expected to be a routine party exercise, leaving attendees shaken.
Following the attack, Ibori-Suenu appealed to members of the APC in Delta State to remain calm and avoid actions that could trigger further unrest, urging her supporters to maintain peace despite the incident.
