Nigerians were thrown into total blackout on Friday following the collapse of the national power grid.
Checks by NATIONAL POST revealed that electricity generation dropped to zero megawatts, cutting off power supply across the country.
Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that power generation fell to 0MW, while load allocation to all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) also dropped to zero as of about 1:00 pm on Friday.
The affected DisCos include Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja, and Yola, all of which recorded zero power allocation.
This incident marks the first national grid collapse in 2026.
As of the time of filing this report, most parts of the country remain without electricity, with no official explanation yet provided for the collapse.
