BREAKING!! National Grid Collapses Again, Second Time in Four Days

Nigeria’s national electricity grid has collapsed again on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, plunging several parts of the country into darkness and disrupting power supply nationwide.

The latest incident marks the second grid collapse within four days, following a similar nationwide outage recorded on Friday, January 23, 2026.

Checks on the website of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that electricity distribution companies (Discos) across the country were not allocated power supply following the collapse.

At the time of the incident, only the Delta Gas Power Plant was operational, generating about 39 megawatts, while other grid-connected power plants were inactive.

NISO, in a preliminary operational report, attributed the collapse to the simultaneous tripping of multiple 330kV transmission lines, alongside the disconnection of some generating units connected to the national grid.

The recurring grid failures have continued to raise concerns over the stability and reliability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
