The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected yahoo boy, Goodnews Iberi, in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a 25-year-old Ticktocker, Rita Eleonu, along the Emuoha axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect, alongside four accomplices currently at large, lured the victim to the Rumuakunde axis of Emuoha Local Government Area before abducting her and taking her into a forest. The gang later contacted the victim’s family and collected a ransom of ₦210,000 under the pretense of securing her release.
However, unknown to the family, the suspects allegedly killed the victim after receiving the ransom and buried her in a shallow grave in the forest. Both the suspect and the deceased are from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the arrest followed a distress report filed on December 29, 2025, by a relative of the victim. Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuoha, subsequently tracked and arrested the prime suspect in his hideout in the early hours of January 8, 2026.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and led police officers to the location where the victim’s remains were recovered. Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.
The Rivers State Police Command assured the public of its commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
