BREAKING!! Tension in Enugu Political Structure, As Popular Senator, Gilbert Nnaji Quits PDP After 27 Years, Joins ADC

Former Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Senator Prince Gilbert Emeka Nnaji, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years of membership and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Nnaji, a pioneer member of the PDP, communicated his decision in a resignation letter dated December 26, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Umuenwene Ward, Iji Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. A copy of the letter was obtained in Enugu on Monday.

In the letter titled “Notice of Resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, the former senator stated that he could no longer remain in the party, describing it as “irreparable and irredeemable.”

He noted that the decision was difficult, given the ideals upon which the PDP was founded, including unity, patriotism, justice, fairness, transparency, and selflessness, adding that he had contributed immensely to the party over the years in various capacities.

According to him, recent developments within the party confirmed that the PDP had drifted far from the vision of its founding fathers, making continued membership untenable.

Nnaji explained that after wide consultations with his family, associates, and other eminent Nigerians, he resolved to seek a new political platform through which he could continue contributing to national development. He disclosed that he had found the ADC to be a promising platform with like-minded compatriots committed to repositioning Nigeria.

The former lawmaker thanked the PDP leadership for the opportunity to serve in the party and wished it well in its future endeavors.

Senator Nnaji is expected to be among top South East political figures who will formally declare for the ADC at a ceremony scheduled to hold in Enugu on Wednesday, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
