BREAKING!! Group Uncovers 20 Terrorist Dens in Enugu Forests, Calls on FG for Immediate Security Intervention

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has revealed the discovery of 20 terrorist dens hidden within forest areas of Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The disclosure was made in a Special Report released on December 17, 2025, to mark the post-77th anniversary of the World Human Rights Declaration. According to the rights group, the terrorist camps are allegedly operated by jihadist Fulani herdsmen and are strategically spread across several forest communities in Ezeagu.

Intersociety stated that the discovered dens are structurally organised into six layers, with each camp reportedly headed by a Fulani leader (Alhaji), said to be affiliated with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). The report further alleged that these camps are centrally coordinated from the Ajali River and its valley, which it described as the operational headquarters for terror activities in the area.

Communities identified as worst affected include Imezi-Owa, Agu-Obu-Owa, Olo, Mgbagbu-Owa, and Oghe. The report claimed that the forest camps have enabled unchecked movement of armed groups and cattle, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption of livelihoods.

Beyond Enugu State, the report also highlighted widespread violence against Christians in other parts of Nigeria. Intersociety alleged that 26 Catholic churches were destroyed or forced to shut down in a single mother parish in Benue State since late 2024, displacing thousands of worshippers.

Additionally, the organisation documented the alleged killing of 82 Christians and the abduction of 147 others by jihadist groups and, in some cases, security forces, between November 23 and December 17, 2025, across states including Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, Kogi, Imo, Niger, Edo, and Adamawa.

The report was jointly signed by Emeka Umeagbalasi, Head of Intersociety; Chidinma Evangeline Udegbunam, Head of Campaign and Publicity; Obiajunu Joy Igboeli, Head of Civil Liberties and Rule of Law Programme; and Comrade Samuel Kamanyaoku, Head of Field Data Collection and Documentation.

Intersociety called on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently dismantle the alleged terror networks and protect vulnerable communities, warning that continued inaction could further worsen insecurity and humanitarian crises in the affected regions.
