Enugu Youths, Nollywood Stars and Social Media Influencers Stage Protest Over Murder of Enugu Filmmaker Vic Matt

The Nigerian entertainment industry witnessed a powerful show of solidarity today, Saturday, September 20, 2025, as Nollywood actors, filmmakers, and social media influencers stormed the streets of Enugu Metropolis to protest the gruesome murder of renowned Nollywood producer and director, Victor Tobechukwu Okoli, popularly known as Vic Matt.

The peaceful protest, which drew a large crowd of entertainers and fans, was organised to demand justice for the late filmmaker who was abducted and brutally killed in August at the popular Ntachi Osa Restaurant area of Enugu. The demonstrators carried placards with bold inscriptions such as “Justice for Vic Matt,” “Stop the Killings,” and “Protect Entertainers, Protect Nigerians,” while chanting songs that condemned insecurity and called for urgent government action.

Vic Matt, widely celebrated as an executive producer, film director, and manager to Big Brother Naija Season 10 star Bright, was reportedly kidnapped on a Friday night near the New Haven Junction Traffic Light by Juhel Filling Station in Enugu and later shot dead by his captors. His death sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry and sparked widespread outrage over the rising tide of violent crimes in the state.

The tragedy was confirmed by filmmaker Ben Cassie, who took to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute, describing Vic Matt as “a man of integrity who stood apart in an industry of snakes and scorpions.” Colleagues and fans alike have since flooded social media with emotional messages, celebrating his talent, humility, and commitment to producing quality films.

Protesters at today’s rally demanded a swift and transparent investigation, urging the Enugu State Government and security agencies to identify and prosecute those behind the killing. They also called for stronger measures to protect entertainers and residents from the alarming wave of kidnappings and violent attacks in the state.

Many described Vic Matt as a bright star and loyal friend whose life was cruelly cut short at a time when he was achieving greater heights in the movie industry. As chants for justice echoed through Enugu’s busy streets, protesters vowed to sustain their campaign until those responsible for his death are brought to book.

 Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Victor Tobechukwu Okoli, popularly known as Vic Matt, the manager and close friend of Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Bright. 

Vic Matt, who was also a respected executive producer and film director, was reportedly abducted on Friday at near popular New Haven, Junction Traffic Light, By Juhel Filling Station spot in Enugu, and later shot dead by his captors. 

His death was confirmed by filmmaker Ben Cassie, who took to Instagram to pen an emotional tribute, describing Vic Matt as a man of integrity who distinguished himself in an industry often riddled with envy and betrayal.

“It is hard for some of us to see those who genuinely wish us well. You always dropped words of encouragement even when I was most silent. In an industry of snakes and scorpions, you stood different. All you wanted was to make good films. You were cool, calm, and intelligent. To be kidnapped and killed is such a heart-wrenching way to leave this earth. For all the times you made me laugh and looked out for me, thank you… Goodnight, Vic ♥️,” she wrote.

The heartbreaking news has sparked an outpouring of grief from Nollywood stakeholders, colleagues, and fans, who have taken to social media to celebrate his legacy and express outrage over the growing wave of insecurity in Enugu and across Nigeria.

Many described Vic Matt as a talented filmmaker, motivator, and loyal friend, whose life was cut short just when he was making greater strides in the entertainment industry.
