Tragedy struck in Otukpo, Benue State, on Monday, September 22, 2025, as yet-to-be-identified gunmen shot dead a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Hon. Ejeh Udeh, in the presence of his wife and children.
According to eyewitnesses quoted by PM News, the attackers, who rode on a motorcycle, stormed Udeh’s residence around midnight and lay in ambush, waiting for him to return home. “The moment he stepped into his compound, the attackers surrounded him and opened fire at close range,” a source recounted. Neighbours reported hearing multiple gunshots that shattered the quiet of the night, sending panic across the community.
By the time residents rushed to the scene, Udeh was found lifeless in a pool of blood. His body was later deposited at the Otukpo General Hospital morgue. The brutal murder has thrown Udeh’s family and the entire Otukpo community into deep mourning and fear.
Efforts by reporters to get an official reaction from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Anene Sewusese, did not respond to calls or messages as of press time.
The killing of Hon. Udeh adds to the growing wave of violent attacks and targeted killings in Benue State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
