Good News: Governor Mbah Eases Burden of Enugu Law Students With ₦61.5 Million Bursary Support

It is indeed good news for Enugu State indigenes studying at the Nigerian Law School, as the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has once again demonstrated his deep commitment to education and human capital development by approving and disbursing a ₦250,000 bursary to each of the 246 Enugu State law students, amounting to a total of ₦61,500,000.

The financial support, released on August 28, 2025, came as a huge relief to the students who have been struggling with the escalating cost of legal education in Nigeria. Their plight became dire following an increase in school fees from ₦396,000 to ₦476,000, in addition to a compulsory ₦30,000 acceptance fee, bringing the total tuition requirement to ₦506,000—excluding other incidental charges. To worsen the situation, Nigerian Law School (NLS) regulations prohibit students from cooking within the campus, forcing them to rely entirely on purchased meals. This had plunged many students into heavy borrowing and untold financial hardship before Governor Mbah’s swift and generous intervention.

Governor Mbah, who has consistently maintained that education is the only sustainable pathway out of poverty and a catalyst for capacity building, acted promptly the moment he was informed of the students’ predicament. His rare gesture has not only alleviated their immediate financial burden but also reaffirmed his status as one of Nigeria’s most education-friendly leaders. With this action, he becomes only the second governor in the entire South-East region to extend such large-scale financial assistance to law students—a move the students described as both historic and life-changing.

Beyond this singular act of benevolence, Governor Mbah’s administration continues to blaze the trail in infrastructural development and youth empowerment, with over 5,000 completed and ongoing projects spread across the state. From roads and water projects to health facilities and digital economy initiatives, his government remains a beacon of transformational leadership aimed at creating opportunities for the younger generation.

Deeply moved by this intervention, the National Association of Enugu State Law Students wrote a formal letter of appreciation to Governor Mbah, expressing their profound gratitude for the bursary and for his unwavering dedication to the educational advancement of Enugu youths.
