The growing wave of insecurity that recently claimed the life of Rev. Father Matthew Eya has again thrown Enugu State into fear and uncertainty as reports emerged of the alleged kidnapping of a popular pharmacist, identified as Pharmacist Caleb, along the Ohebe-Agu–Orba Road in Orba, Udenu Local Government Area.
According to community sources, the alleged incident occurred on Saturday evening, around 5 p.m., when Caleb was said to have been waylaid by unidentified armed men while traveling along the lonely road. Though details remain sketchy and the circumstances of his disappearance are still unclear, worried residents suspect that he may have been abducted by the same criminal elements who have been terrorizing the area in recent weeks.
This shocking development comes barely two days after the brutal murder of Rev. Father Matthew Eya along the nearby Eha-Ndiagu–Eha-Etiti Road, intensifying fears that the once peaceful Udenu axis is fast becoming a deadly hotspot for kidnappers and violent gangs. Many locals describe the atmosphere as tense and frightening, with families now afraid to travel even short distances.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming the alleged kidnapping, but security operatives are said to have begun discreet operations in a bid to verify the report and, if confirmed, rescue the victim. Residents, meanwhile, are calling on Governor Peter Mbah’s administration and security agencies to act decisively, warning that the escalating violence threatens to overwhelm the state if left unchecked.
The alleged disappearance of Pharmacist Caleb, coming so soon after the killing of a Catholic priest, underscores the grim reality of Enugu’s worsening security crisis, leaving communities traumatized and desperately hoping that both the killers and suspected kidnappers will be swiftly apprehended before more lives are shattered.
